URGENT APPEALS
When it comes to wombats, there are a few issues we are extremely passionate about. Have a look at our current appeals and if you can support in any way, the wombats will thank you!
Bushfire appeal
This new year we face the enormity of the bushfires that have scorched our country. The skies are still smoke filled, fires still burn – and animals have suffered and perished in unknowable numbers.
To date, an estimated 1.25 billion animals have been killed across Australia. The true toll will be far higher, as surviving animals die of injuries, homelessness, thirst and hunger. These includes so many of our iconic species, like koalas and wombats.
Our organisation’s focus is protecting wombats. The rehabilitation, research and conservation work done at WPSA has never been more important. Our challenge now is to help wombats survive.
We must care for burnt and critically injured wombats.
We must provide food for starving wombats, and water for wombats dying of thirst.
We must rebuild safe places for wombats now their habitat and food sources have been destroyed.
We must support the selfless individuals who dedicate their lives to protecting and caring for wombats. Many carers have been severely impacted by the fires or are preparing for the inevitability of new fires in their area.
Your generous donation to WPSA will be 100% tax deductible. All funds go directly to the care and protection of wombats.
We cannot see our extraordinary wombats become extinct.
We need to ensure that wombats survive not just this month, but as a viable species for the future.
Thank you for your care, compassion, and help to keep wombats alive. Thank you too, to all the selfless volunteers facing the flame today, protecting us all, and to those trekking across the black to bring food and help to our wildlife.

Stop the killing of Wombats in Victoria
UPDATE:
Outdated Law in Victoria Overturned
WPSA have been campaigning to amend an outdated law in Victoria that allowed 193 parishes to indiscriminately cull wombats without a permit.
As of 6 February 2020, the Wildlife Act 1975 has been amended, officially revoking this outdated law. Wombats in Victoria now receive the same protection as other native Australian animals.
This is a good step forward. Thank you to everyone who stood with us to help overturn this outdated law!
WPSA will continue to campaign for the protection of wombats. We will continue to pursue a change in policy that requires valid proof of agricultural loss and attempt at alternative forms of management before any property owner is issued a permit.
